Very good game! I saw someone asked if he can use your assets, may I also use your assets? And how did you get the cool cars, drawed them yourselves or some other technique?
Can I also maybe get the source code file or won't you share it?
Is the new game you are making similar to this one?
Thanks! And idk if these can be called tiles, basically the maps have a simple repeating background texture that is indeed tiled (this pic:
) but the roads are objects with different sprites, split into pieces, that I placed arbitrarily (these :
). And finally the other props and details are also objects with sprites, usually with just a collision box defined for them, unless they can't be hit by the player cause of their location:
To get them to look lower quality I used a free program called irfanview and I reduced the color amount. I think I usually reduced it to 40 colors cause I liked the result (I didn't choose any specific number based on old games or old hardware, just a number with which it looked good to me).
The game seems to run on Windows XP 32-bit, but it crashes immediately when I try to start it. I would like you to fix this issue, as the game has a retro theme and Windows XP 32-bit should be the ideal platform for it.
Mate this has to be one of the coolest rally games that I have ever played yet. Iam really impressed with the drift physics and more over having a co-pilot was the greatest inclusion yet. My most favorite track had to be the East Africa and Great Britain. I really love the fact the cars are actually based on real WRC cars.
Sorry probably not, I'm more likely to make a new car game than to update this one. I tried to update it a while back but decided it's better to make a new game instead, since I feel like an update to this one should definitely also support 60 FPS and this would be too hard to implement (the gameplay is unfortunately tied to the game speed and FPS in many parts of the code).
Hey! I just made an account on itch.io just to let you know that this is promising! It's a fun little game, and I love it. The controls are great, as is the overall atmosphere, has hints of the old SEGA Rally Championship and Colin McRae 2.0 games, among other influences I guess. One thing though, it is possible to provide an option for higher framerates for the game? I did find it slightly dizzying at times because of that.
Thanks!! I didn't play Colin McRae but I was always a fan of Sega Rally. My main inspiration was World Rally though, an old arcade machine game. Unfortunately I tried to update this to run at 60 FPS but the gameplay is so tied to the frame rate (my mistake from when I made it) that it was proving too hard. Sorry!
hey mate! sorry to bother you, i just completed the game and im wondering, is there any way by chance that i can delete my data so that i can start the game with a fresh start? ive already tried deleting and reinstalling the game, but that does not seem to work.
Hi! To delete your save data, you have to go to this folder: "C:\Users\[your windows username]\AppData\Local\Opposite_Lock_Rally\Assets" and delete the file "progress.olr".
hey mate!, just a quick question how many cars are there in the game, and how do we unlock them? (been playing the game and i love it!!!) its taken so long for someone to create a retro game like this, and i can say that it is indeed amazing!
Thanks!! Glad you liked it! There are 7 cars and you unlock them by completing the tournaments. Note that after the 3 tournaments there's a "secret" race called Gymkhana Stadium that you unlock if you get the maximum points for each tournament (by placing 1st in all 3 races). Winning that race in tournament mode unlocks the 7th car. There's also a hidden 8th car that you get with a cheat, by typing "giorgiomoroder" as the name of player 2 in the options menu. If you are interested in old school indie games like this there's a somewhat similar car game by a dev called Vijuda, the game is called "Super Woden GP". Might be worth checking out. I admit I didn't play the final version yet but I played a demo once when I chatted with him for a bit (he's really cool) and the game was great.
That one was meant to be a UFO that you could unlock as an easter egg but I ended up not including it out of laziness (and cause my attempts to draw a UFO weren't turning out very good lol)
I can't, sorry! I don't have that export for GMS. I tried to port it to HTML5 in the past but it was taking me too long to sort out the bugs so I decided to focus on making a new game these days.
Thanks!! I think I could make an html5 version which runs on smartphones since I made this in Game Maker Studio and I can export it that way too (with some edits of course). But idk about making it into an actual app. I'm gonna look into this.
The problem with most modern retro-style games is that, one way or another, in the end of the day you still "feel" that it's a modern game. This game is an exception; if somebody just gave me the archive saying it's an lost-n-found game from the 90's I never would've thought it's a modern game. The pdf manual included in the download deserves special praise. Handling in the game feels weird at first, but it becomes fun when you get the hang of it. I really hope to see more games like that in the future. (づ ̄ 3 ̄)づ

Hi, it looks great! Are you using tiles to make the map or another method?
Thanks in advance

Oh and the rocky sides of hills in the France track are these images with blurred transparent edges, also scattered around by hand by me:

Legit one of the most fun rally games I’ve ever played lmfao
lol thanks!!!
I want to make a similar game as my first game made, what engine is this made in?
This was made in Game Maker Studio 1.3 (although I started making it in Game Maker 8 and then ported it to GMS 1.3). Good luck with your game!!
EL JUEGO SE VE BIEN, DE VERDAD, PERO LE FALTA ALGO CON EL CONTROL, CREO QUE ES MUY SENSIBLE

Love the retro styling! Takes a little time to get a hold of the controls but it's very fun
Thank you!!

Thank you so much for those words, I appreciate it and I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!
will we ever get to see a Lan-evo by any chance

HI! I checked the game text file and found what i believe to be is another car. it doesn't seem to have all the details but is named "Roswell 47".

Day 13 of asking the Devs to add Linux Support. (missed 6 days)

Sorry! I'm not able to do that. I could perhaps make it into an HTML5 game but I want to work on a different new project these days.

You should consider making an Android version of this game! I don't know how hard it would be but that would be so sick
Thanks!! I think I could make an html5 version which runs on smartphones since I made this in Game Maker Studio and I can export it that way too (with some edits of course). But idk about making it into an actual app. I'm gonna look into this.
